Built environment literacy is a powerful pathway towards addressing social, economic, and environmental inequities and their broad-reaching repercussions on the ability of people - particularly marginalised communities - not just to survive, but to thrive.
BE literacy enables individuals to influence the ways they use the spaces they occupy, and create the spaces they need, by empowering them with the knowledge, understanding, and interest to take an active part in shaping their built environment.
Ultimately, it increases individual agency in creating sustainable communities that better serve the needs and priorities of all members of society.
